Elton John and David Furnish have told how parenting the second time round has been easier.
The couple, who already have one child, two-year-old Zachary, became parents
for the second time in January when their youngest son Elijah was born.
They said having "great support" around them in a good nanny and paeditrician
has made parenting a lot easier, and Furnish praised the people who have
helped them with the children.
"It feels a lot easier, a lot more comfortable - the routine is already in
place with Zachary in a way, and all the stuff that was so scary the first
time around isn't quite so scary the second time around," said Furnish,
speaking before the Elton John Aids Foundation Oscar viewing party.
The couple made headlines around the world when they became parents for the
first time in 2010, when Sir Elton was 63 and David 48. Their civil
partnership was formalised in 2005.
Zachary was born on Christmas Day 2010 and Elijah on January 11 this year. The
identity of the surrogate mother, who is from California, has remained a
closely guarded secret but the two boys are believed to be half brothers.
The Centre for Surrogate Parenting in Encino, California, has strict rules
on who can be surrogate parents, and surrogate mothers have to be non
smokers and already bringing up a child of their own.
